Latest developments regarding the American customs situation

10.04.2025

Dear customers,

We would like to inform you about the latest developments regarding the US customs situation.

As of April 2, 2025, the US government under President Trump has introduced a comprehensive package of punitive tariffs for 185 countries, which provides for a flat tariff rate of 10% on all imports. In future, customs duties of 20% will apply to European imports, while specific customs duties will also apply to imports from other countries.

On April 9, 2025, US President Donald Trump suspended these retaliatory tariffs for 90 days for countries that want to negotiate tariffs with the US. This means that most countries are currently subject to the additional base tariff rate of 10 percent. China is an important exception to this, with significantly higher tariffs.

The tariffs that have already been introduced, such as tariffs of 25 percent on steel and aluminum products, remain unchanged. We await further information from the US and will keep you informed accordingly.

All of the information provided is based on the information available to us as of today (as of April 10, 2025). We will, of course, keep you informed of further developments. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about your customs processing and logistics requirements. Feel free to contact us at any time!

Current delays in European seaports

19.03.2025

There may currently be delays at several European seaports, including Hamburg and Antwerp. The causes are ship delays, staff shortages, and strikes, which can lead to poor handling conditions and additional costs.

The current situation is particularly evident in long waiting times for trucks at ports, delays in rail handling, overloaded inland terminals, construction work on the rail network, and ongoing congestion for inland vessels in western ports.

We at M.G. International are monitoring the situation closely and are doing everything we can to minimize the impact on our customers. We ask for your understanding and are available to answer any questions you may have.

For up-to-date information on your shipments, please contact your usual contact person at our company.
